You do not need to spend a fortune on cleaning supplies and detergents. This is how you can save money and keep your home impeccably clean.

saving moneyA large portion of your monthly budget can go towards cleaning. Usually, we do not pay much attention to how much we spend on cleaning supplies and detergents. However, it is often the case that we have all the necessary supplies to keep our home pristinely clean at home. You do not need to spend a massive amount of time and a lot of money to remove dirt and stains from your home. Following a few basic and all-natural recipes, you can enjoy a clean and tidy home without having to spend a fortune or waste what seems like days on cleaning.

5 Tricks to save on cleaning expenses.

1.Clean a little bit every day.

The simplest way to save more money when it comes to cleaning is to develop the habit to clean a little bit every day. Every time you are doing something clean up after. If you spill something clean it then and there. Do not let dishes pile up, mop and hoover the floors regularly. By doing so you will avoid having to spend money on expensive cleaning supplies.

2.Correctly store your cleaning detergents.

For your detergents to be more effective longer you have to store them correctly. Do not let them get exposed to extreme temperatures and make sure they are safely out of the way of children and pets.

3.Use multi-use cleaning supplies.

When you are buying cleaning accessories pick ones that have multiple uses such as microfiber cloths and an appropriate mop for your floors. Also do not forget that these supplies also have to be cleaned.

4.You can use dishwashing liquid for more than pots and pans.

You can use dishwashing liquid to clean much more than your dishes. You can use it to clean various surfaces, worktops and even your air conditioning filters. You will not only save on purchasing expensive cleaning tools but will also achieve outstanding cleaning results.

5.Consider DIY cleaning detergents.

We all know that ingredients we usually have lying around the home, such as lemons, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and vinegar, can be used to create all-natural cleaning detergents. These cleaning solutions can be as effective as store-bought cleaning supplies, however, these alternatives will drastically cut down on expenses.

See some of our house cleaning suggestions below.

For the bathroom.

If you have leftover cola you can pour it in the toilet and leave it overnight or for a few hours. The cola will help dissolve dirt in hard to reach places you cannot manage using a brush. Plain old baking soda is an effective all-purpose cleaner you can use in many cases around your home. Sprinkle a few tablespoons of baking soda on your toilet and wait for a few minutes. The baking soda used in this way will help remove unwanted odours from your toilet. For even better results you can add just a few drops of essential oil to the baking soda. If you make a thick paste of lemon juice and baking soda and use it to scrub the tiles in the bathroom you can get them shining, after cleaning you just have to rinse the tiles. A cost-effective trick you can use to deal with limescale in the bathroom is adding some lemon juice to the taps or any other limescale affected area, wait an hour and then rinse with very hot water. This works perfectly even for very hard water. Toothbrushes and their holders are one of the dirtiest places in your home. Hydrogen peroxide kills all unwanted germs and is completely safe. Dip the toothbrush holders in hydrogen peroxide for about an hour and rinse, they should be as good as new after.

For the kitchen.

For perfectly clean trays and oven, use baking soda. Pour over a large amount of baking soda on the entire surface and pour some boiling water on top of the trays. Leave for an hour and rinse.
To effectively clean your kettle mix half a cup of vinegar and half a cup of water and pour it inside the kettle, turn it on and bring up to the boil. Throw away the vinegar and the water cleaning solution, wash the kettle and bring fresh water to a boil before using. If your kettle has a lot of residue on it leave the vinegar and water mixture to activate for half an hour before your boil it.

Lemon juice, vinegar and salt can make a fantastic dishwashing detergent. Add about 4 lemons sliced into quarters to two cups of water and bring this mixture to a boil after add salt and vinegar. You only need to use about 3 tablespoons of this solution instead of store-bought detergent for your dishwasher.
Put used coffee grounds in a small plastic container and put them in the fridge. They will absorb any funky and unpleasant smells.
You can use vodka and vinegar to add an incredible shine to your windows. Soak up a piece of paper towel with the alcohol and vinegar solution and use it to clean your windows.

Laundry.

Fat and oil stains can be removed by using laundry detergent made for children. Simply sprinkle a fair amount of children's laundry detergent over the stain and leave it overnight. All you need to do after is just wash the clothes normally.

Bleach can damage your clothes and lead to them deteriorating faster. Replace bleach with a mix of baking soda and vinegar. This all-natural recipe will make your whites truly white.

You can use a mixture of 2 parts baking soda and 1 part corn starch to clean stuffed toys. Place the toy along with the mixture in an appropriately sized zip lock bag or even a pillowcase will work and shake vigorously. Dust off any excess cleaning powder and dry off the stuffed toy. If you are running short on fabric softener you can try our home-made fabric softener. Mix 6 cups of water, 3 cups of vinegar and 2 cups hair conditioner. Add 2 tablespoons of this solution to your next batch of laundry.

To clean your sofa mix 6 tablespoons of any soap of your choice with a little bit of boiling water. You can apply the resulting mixture directly over the fabric. Carefully rinse and remove the remaining mixture using a damp towel. This easy upholstery cleaning recipe can also work for carpet cleaning
You can use reusable cleaning cloths to cut back on expenses. In an appropriate container mix 1 cup of boiling water, 1/4 cup of alcohol and 2 tablespoons of liquid soap. Dip 4-5 small piece of cloth in this mixture. You can also add several drops of your favourite essential oil for an added aroma.

You can use olive oil to expertly give a shine to wood. Add just a few drops of olive oil to a towel and use that to polish and wooden furniture. Deeply clean your carpets by thoroughly hoovering them first and then make a paste comprised of 1/4 cup of salt, 1/4 cup of borax and 1/4 cup of vinegar. Apply this paste to any stains or visibly dirty parts of your carpet, leave it to dry and clean your carpet again. After that either steam clean the carpet or simply wash.

Brass can also darken as time goes by. To give a newer fresher look to any brass cutlery or items you may have to mix 1/2 cup lemon juice with one tablespoon baking soda (you can also use salt). Use the resulting paste to wipe the brass surface with a piece of cloth and then rinse and dry.
Regularly having to keep your property clean and shining can lead to a lot of expenses building up.

A different option you can consider is reaching out to a professional cleaning company and scheduling a cleaning service. You can consider a weekly cleaning as a maintenance service or a complete deep cleaning. For the deep cleaning, you do not need to schedule it more often than once every 6 months. In the meantime, you can just do little bits here and there to keep your home clean. The advantages of professional cleaning services are not only in saving you time and effort in the long run you also save money.
